Galway County Shoot 2023 Results

Congratulations to Woodford on winning the club competition after tying with Loughrea, with the 6th score deciding the winner, 243 to 239. Woodford will go on to represent Galway at the NARGC All Ireland shoot in July.

Congratulations to Tómas Callanan on winning overall High Gun with 46+9 after a shoot-off with Nigel McMahon 46+8. Paul Shaughnessy also shot 46 but had left the ground.

Congratulations to all who qualified to represent Galway in the NARGC All Ireland in July in the Lady, Trainee, U21, Veteran, Super Veteran and Side by Side categorys.

The GGHA Annual County Shoot is taking place on Sunday, 08th May, In Esker Shooting Grounds. If your club wishes to take part, please return the enclosed entry from to me by Friday, May 01st 2022.

Pre Qualifiers Dates:       Saturday 16th April in Esker    3 – 5.30pm

                                             Saturday 23rd April in Esker   3 – 5.30pm

Post Qualifiers Dates:      Saturday 21st May Esker          3 – 5.30pm

                                           Saturday 28th May Esker      3 – 5.30pm

NOTE:

  • The Shoot will be a 50 bird sporting layout.

There will be a GGHA High Gun Cup presented to the best shooter on the day.

There will be a GGHA Shield presented to the best gun club team on the day.

A team shall consist of up to 6 club members insured with that club and the five best scores will be counted. Entry forms must be returned to me by 01st May 2022 so that participants can be verified with the County Fund Officer prior to shoot.

(In the event of a shoot off the 6th persons score will count).

The Shoot timetable will be distributed to club secretaries on Wednesday 04th of May 2022.

It is essential to state in the application form and on the day of the County Shoot whether any team members are Veterans (60 – 69)  ,Super veterans ( 70 and over) U 21, Trainee or using side by side shotguns. Please provide phone number after name.

Persons must be under the age on the day of the NARGC national shoot (09 July, 2022)

Format, Rules and Regulations

– The shoot will consist of a 50 bird sporting format

– All squads will start on allocated trap and move forward (Not Back on traps A, B, C, D, E, F)

– One show pair per Team

– First pair is optional (During qualifiers you are straight in)

– Broken clays are pair again ( On optional pair only)

– All squad scores will be noted and signed at each trap by a GGHA executive member

– All discrepancies are to be voiced in an appropriate manner before any squad moves on from a trap

– The executive’s decision is final

– Teams must be available to shoot at set times

– Eye/Ear protection must be worn at all times.

– No traps will be adjusted by anyone except the shoot manager after shoot starts.

– Guns must be broken (and automatics breech open) at all times and guns not to be loaded only in stand.

-The shooter can only close his gun (or the breech of his gun) when it is his turn to shoot.

In the event that a cartridge has not gone off or in the case of another malfunction of the gun or the cartridge, the shooter must remain at his stand, with the gun facing the shooting range, without opening it or touching the safety catch until the referee has checked the gun. The shooter must not turn round on the shooting stand before he has opened his gun and taken out all the cartridges from the chambers, whether they have been fired or not.

– There will be a 5 Person jury committee to resolve any discrepancies.

NARGC National Shoot Qualification

The following will go to the NARGC National Shoot in July 2022

*Individuals wishing to compete for the GGHA County Team (12 persons) must participate in an additional 2 of the 4 selection shoots.

Note: The GGHA County Shoot score is compulsory, plus two best scores of the 4 selection shoots, 2 of which will before the county shoot and 2 after in 2 in Esker. The optional pair only applies for the GGHA County Shoot.

Top 5 Veteran (Over 60) and Super Veteran (Over 70) participants*

* Club team to represent will be the best team of county shoot.

Individual GGHA score cards will be issued and used on the day. These must be filled out very carefully on the day of the County Shoot, i.e. listing whether the individual is U21, S/S shooter, Veteran, super Veteran, Compensation Fund Number, phone number, etc.

The Team Captain

The team captain is the person with the best score over all Qualifiers

(county shoot and 1 score from each ground).

The Team manager will be picked after the qualifiers.

Woodford Gun Club is holding a clay shoot at Porters Field on Monday 5th August and there is a shoot in aid of the Offaly Hospice at Esker SG on Sunday 18th August next.

Update for the Qualifying of the County Team, the national registration deadline is the 16th June. This means that only the first 2 shoots for Saturday 3rd of June in Ballinasloe and Saturday 10th of June in Esker will go towards team qualification.

Your score from the County shoot and one score from either of the qualifying shoot will decide this years GGHA County Team 

GGHA County Team qualifiers will be held as follows
1. Saturday 3rd June in Balinasloe Shooting Grounds from 17:00 – 19:00
2. Saturday 10th June Esker Shooting Grounds, @ 17:00
3. Sunday the 25th June in Balinasloe Shooting grounds at the Bullaun/ Kiltulla Shoot

Galway Game Hunting Association County Shoot 2015 Results
The Galway Game Hunting Association annual County Shoot took place in Poolboy, Ballinasloe on Sunday, May 24th in perfect weather conditions. The 30 competing teams were divided into three divisions, giving Gun Clubs plenty of space to progress over the years. Amongst the 140 competitors included under 21s as well as a number of veterans, ladies, individuals using side-by-side shotguns and trainee licence holders.

Division 1 winners were:

  • 1st -Tynagh Gun Club,
  • 2nd- Kiltulla-Bullaun Gun Club,
  • 3rd- Castlegar Gun Club.

Division 2 winners were:

  • 1st – Kilchreest-Peterswell Gun Club
  • 2nd – Kilkerrin-Clonbern Gun Club
  • 3rd – Killimor Gun Club

Division 3 winners were:

  • 1st – N17 Gun Club,
  • 2nd – Claregalway Gun Club
  • 3rd – Killimor Gun Club (Team 2)

The High Gun winner was Ross Callanan (Kilchreest-Peterswell Gun Club) who shot an impressive 48/50 score. The Ladies Event was won by Lisa Hoban (Tynagh Gun Club) with an excellent score of 41/50.

Congratulations to all who took part and to the Galway GHA Executive Committee and Clay Shooting Development Committee for running a great event.

2014 NARGC All Ireland Division 2 Champions-Galway

This year, we saw a great participation by all clubs in the GGHA County Shoot in Ballinasloe. The 35 competing teams were divided into three divisions, giving Gun Clubs plenty of space to progress over the years. Amongst the 177 competitors included twelve under 21s as well as a number of veterans, ladies, individuals using side-by-side shotguns and trainee licence holders.

Division 1 winners were: 1st) Killimor Gun Club (Team 1), 2nd) Woodford Gun Club, 3rd) Meelick-Esker Gun Club.

Division 2 winners were: 1st) Tynagh Gun Club (Team 1), 2nd) Killimor Gun Club (Team 2), 3rd) Kilchreest-Peterswell Gun Club.

Division 3 winners were: 1st) Tynagh Gun Club (Team 2), 2nd) Kilkerrin-Clonbern Gun Club, 3rd) Claregalway Gun Club.

The High Gun winner was Brian Porter (Woodford Gun Club) who shot an impressive 48/50 score. The Ladies Event was won by Lisa Hoban (Tynagh Gun Club) with an excellent score of 46/50. After an exciting shoot-off, the Under 21 Event was won by Thomas Lawless (Tynagh Gun Club) and the Trainee Event was won by Darragh Collins (Kilkerrin-Clonbern Gun Club).

In excess of 40 individuals competed in three additional selection shoots for a place on the Galway Team to compete in the NARGC National Shoot in Lakeland Shooting Grounds, Co. Westmeath on July 13th and 14th 2013. Despite great individual performances by senior/junior shooters, we were not on the podium for any honours this year.
